May is Community Action Month!

Schoharie County Community Action Program
May 1, 2024

As part of a national network of community action agencies, SCCAP has been charged with educating the public about the socioeconomic barriers our communities face, the resources available to address these barriers, and how these resources benefit the community at large.

Building stronger, healthier communities & empowering families by:

Supporting Families

SCCAP supports families by strengthening family bonds and making community connections. Skill building classes, child care connections, supervised visitation, and esteem building classes for youth strengthen families at home and increase positive interactions in the community.

Enhancing our Workforce

SCCAP supports both employers and those seeking employment in their job search, employment retention, and professional development. Helping individuals overcome barriers to employment and supporting local businesses in workforce development is a multi-faceted approach to reducing unemployment and contributing to economic growth.

Stabilizing Families & Maximizing Resources

The first step in the pathway to self-sufficiency is stabilization; meeting immediate needs to alleviate stressors and keep families safe. Supplemental programs help families maximize their financial resources. Stabilization prevents family crises and programs like Women, Infants, and Children (WIC).

Promoting Wellness

There are many dimensions to wellness – SCCAP supports and incentivizes local families and businesses for promoting healthy choices. Increased access to healthy choices through programs like the Farmer’s Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) and the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) encourages families and partners to invest in their health and wellness.

Improving Infrastructure

Weatherization services ensure health and safety and jump-starts economic growth in our neighborhoods by reducing the environmental impact of energy usage and increasing real estate market value on local homes.
