‘Collective Visions’ – Art of Schoharie County at CREATE

CREATE gallery in cooperation with Schoharie County Arts will present the exhibition “Collective Visions – Art of Schoharie County” from Sept. 6th to Sept. 22nd, 2024 at CREATE Gallery 398 Main St., Catskill, NY. 

The exhibition features work(s) by twelve artists who have drawn inspiration from the land, history and architecture of Schoharie County. Totaling nearly fifty artworks, the exhibit includes a wide variety of mediums including oil paint, watercolor, lithography, pastel, graphite, photography and copper assemblage.

The artists selected span generations beginning from the early 20th century to the present. Many are local residents who are self-taught while others have professional backgrounds. Many of the works in the exhibition have received national and international awards and can be found in many private and corporate collections. Each artist’s work is accompanied by a brief outline of the artists biography, history, exhibition record, artist statement and commentary. Many of the works are available for sale.

Featuring work by:​​​​​​​​ Casey Beal​​​​​​​​, Charles Jahnke​​​​​​​​, Clara Effner​​​​​​​​, Elizabeth Apgar-Smith​​​​​​​​, Jason Scardamalia​​​​​​​​, John Grosvenor​​​​​​​​, Mark Swanberry​​​​​​​​, Nora Logan​​​​​​​​, Robert Wesner​​​​​​​​, Susan Story​​​​​​​​, Sylvia Van Houten​​​​​​​​, and William Cornog​​​​​​​​.

This exhibit was curated by Brian Dickerson. He is a former Professor of Visual Art at the Art Institute of Philadelphia. Raised in Middleburgh, NY, his work has been exhibited in several galleries and museums throughout the U.S. and abroad. He is also the recipient of numerous awards and grants.

SCHOHARIE COUNTY ARTS seeks to broaden and enrich the quality of life in Schoharie County by developing and strengthening the arts through promoting cultural and arts-related activities.

CREATE COUNCIL ON THE ARTS is a non-profit, arts service organization whose purpose is to support and advance the arts and cultural community by broadening and enriching creative resources and economic growth in the region. CREATE serves as the Statewide Community Re-grant arts organization for Greene, Columbia and Schoharie Counties.

Since 1975, CREATE has provided information and essential services to artists, arts organizations, cultural and educational institutions, civic groups, community agencies and the general public, and continues to grow its outreach as a regional arts council. CREATE is supported in part with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Kathy Hochul and the New York State Legislature, and the Greene County Legislature.
