U Pick Lavender Days at Slate Hill Lavender Farm

We enjoy seeing visitors to Slate Hill Lavender Farm appreciate the lavender along with our spectacular view and beautiful farm. Mid June, we welcome visitors for U Pick Lavender Days through mid July. Opening day is dependent on the weather and when the bloom begins. While here to pick lavender, take time to walk the farm, relax in the field, shop our lavender barn for our small batch lavender products from Slate Hill Lavender Farm.

The Gilboa Museum is excited to host textile conservator Sarah Stevens on Saturday, July 12, 1 pm as she discusses the Museum’s recently acquired Davis-Gilboa Signature Quilt. The recently conserved quilt contains the names and identities of most of the 276 residents (and some visitors) of 1912-13 Gilboa a little more than a decade before Gilboa Village was flooded to make way for the Schoharie. The story of the quilt and its signatories has been painstakingly researched and catalogued by GHS Board Member Lee Hudson. Mark this event on your calendar. Fun, fascinating facts, free refreshments. Free admission, too !

Historic Songs of the American Revolution

The American Revolution is most noted for its many battles, but it was also a time of patriotism, inspiration, and song. The Schoharie County Historical Society will be hosting award winning musical artists Cosby Gibson and Tom Staudle. Their program will feature about eight historic songs and give a brief narrative of the history of the war. Admission for this performance is $10 for everyone 12 and up. Tickets are now available, seats are limited so please consider purchasing today!

Special Event: Lloyd Elm, Jr.

The Iroquois Museum presents an afternoon of music and discussion with Lloyd Elm, Jr.  Lloyd started the Iroquois Museum at the end of last year.  Lloyd, born and raised on the Onondaga Reservation outside of Syracuse, NY, is a direct descendant of the Comanche Chief Ten Bears through his mother, Isa Attocknie, who was a traditional dancer. His father, the late Lloyd Elm Sr., was a respected Onondaga chief and educator who held professorships at both Cornell University and SUNY Buffalo State’s Education Department.

Throughout his presentation, Lloyd shared insights about his upbringing and cultural heritage. He explained his connection to the Onondaga people, the Haudenosaunee Longhouse traditions, and the Comanche Nation. Lloyd is deeply knowledgeable about his roots and the cultural practices of several groups, offering a well-rounded and authentic view of Native American life.

In addition to his cultural expertise, Lloyd is a skilled tradesman, having worked as a journeyman ironworker, and is passionate about preserving his traditions through music and art. A talented traditional singer/songwriter and dancer, Lloyd also carves and plays cedar flutes, crafting them by hand from start to finish. He emphasized the importance of these traditional practices in maintaining the connection to his ancestors.

Schoharie County Sunshine Fair

This 148-year family-fun tradition features concerts including The Marshall Tucker Band and Chubby Checker, midway rides for all ages, Big Top Super Circus, famed unicyclist Wesley Williams – The One Wheel Wonder, Puppy Pals Live stunt show, Dock Dogs, demolition derbies, truck & tractor pulls, livestock events, Clydesdales, Heritage Village, chainsaw sculpting & auction, Taste of New York, 4-H & community exhibits, kids’ bicycle giveaway, contests, favorite fair food and more.

Pay-one-price admission (ages 3 & older): $17 Tuesday, $20 Wednesday – Friday, $22 Saturday – Sunday (includes unlimited rides, shows & parking). Free admission for kids 2 & younger and $5 rides for those 36″ or taller. See the website for senior and military appreciation days.

Nebula Spin Art

Join educators from the Dudley Observatory at Siena College for this fun program where astronomy and art meet! Nebula are clouds of gas and dust that can either be leftover from a supernova explosion or the birthplace of stars. Astronomers study these objects by looking at the light produced by different elements. Participants will learn about nebulae and make their own nebula spin art. Recommended for ages 6 and up.  Sponsored by The Dean Graham Foundation.

Build & Decorate a Birdhouse

Get creative and decorate a birdhouse your feathered neighbors can really use! Participants will assemble pre-cut birdhouse kits, then paint the exteriors to make a beautiful, funtional home for birds.
