Closing the Gap is a free program seeking to address the access to justice gap in rural areas. Through the use of technology, attorneys in urban areas like Albany and NYC, volunteer their time to assist low-income people in underserved areas facing consumer debt judgments and housing evictions. This presentation will describe the types of issues that Closing the Gap addresses such as: small claim suits, medical debts, credit card debts, car repossessions, etc. Attendees will learn how they can contact Legal Aid for their civil legal needs and how to navigate courts as a “pro se” defendants with the assistance of Closing the Gap. Registration is suggested but not required.
